The Art Institute of Chicago will present Chicago Baroque Ensemble in a program of seventeenth-century Italian musicIn conjunction with the Art Institute's special exhibition, "Bernini's Rome: Italian Baroque Terracottas from the State Hermitage."
The princes of the church who sponsored the great building projects of baroque Rome, were also lovers and patrons of music. Chamber music created for their households and academies reflects many of the same themes that inspire the visual arts of the age: ecstasy, piety, love, and passion for the beauty and mystery of the Eternal City. Our program features vocal and instrumental works by Alessandro Stradella, Dario Castello, Arcangelo Corelli and others.
